Nautilus Dive Center-Scuba Tour, Snorkel Tour, Scuba Lesson, Snorkel Rent
Nautilus Dive Center - Hilo is the lifelong passion of Bill De Rooy. Introduced to diving in the frigid waters of Lake Tahoe - and a licensed aircraft mechanic for 20 years - Bill is a Master Diver, PADI Instructor since 1983, certified ScubaPro mechanic, psychologist, priest, curmudgeon, a collector of shells and stories and divemasters and old coins and bottles he finds laying around on the ground.
Bill has so done so many dives - ~30+ dives a month for the last 30+ years - the medical establishment wants to study the flora in his ears for science. We hope he donates his body to the medical community so we can finally discover: what exactly went wrong?
Bill has trained so many people - he recognizes your problems when you walk through the door for the very first time.
Bill once made the front page of the Hilo Tribune-Herald for finding a Live Artillery Shell at our Local Dive Spot!
If it is in the ocean of the Big Island - Bill has seen it. If it swims - Bill has floated with it. If it lives in our waters - Bill has played with it, and lived to tell the tale.
He is the finest instructor in East Hawaii - the most experienced, and the safest. You may see him giving a small prayer as he enters the ocean with you - but that is just small part of the full service treatment Nautilus is renown for - Bill is communicating with the local gods to help him bring you back safe. A sponsor of Hilo beach cleanups for decades, Bill De Rooy and Nautilus resonate the the pulse of the Hawaiian ocean and provide you the knowledge and information and security you need to feel relaxed in our waters.
Bill De Rooy - don't dive in East Hawaii without him.
